Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel CottoFight Results from Las Vegas
Manny Pacquiao stopped Miguel Cotto in round twelve of their WBO welterweight title fight.
Referee Kenny Bayless put an end to the massacre at :55 of round twelve, sparing Miguel Cotto another two minutes of punishment at the hands of Manny Pacquiao. It was a tale of two fights with the first half being a brawl and the second half an exercise in frustration for Pacquiao 50-3-2 (38) as he chased Cotto 34-1 (27) around the ring for the last six rounds. Cotto began the fight using his jab and pounding Pacquiao's body. When Pacquiao tried bob to his right after punching, Cotto blocked him with his left, preventing his movement. At times Pacquiao chose to stand against the ropes with his earmuffs on to test Cotto's power and Cotto obliged by digging hard shots to Pacquiao's body. Pacquiao waived Cotto in and let him do his work, but never let a hard punch go unanswered. Pacquiao knocked Cotto down with a right hand in round three, though Cotto didn't seem hurt. Pacquiao knocked Cotto down again in round four. That one hurt. By the sixth, Pacquiao was fighting like the bigger man and Cotto began fighting like a man who didn't really want to be there. He could have been backing up in order to suck Pacquiao into a hard shot, but the problem with sucking Pacquiao in is that Pacquiao comes in punching. By the tenth round, Cotto was back-pedaling so much a frustrated Pacquiao stood still and waited for Cotto to stop running and come to him, a scenario that repeated itself in the eleventh round. By round twelve Pacquiao was landing at will and Bayless could no longer, in good conscience, allow Cotto to receive punishment, leading to his stopping the fight. All three Judges had given Cotto the first round on their scorecards. Cotto didn't win another round on any judges card until the 11th, when two of the judges were so impressed with his dancing that they gave him the round.
